What is happening

ICE Mortgage Technology is retiring its legacy Encompass CRM and consolidating customers onto Surefire, the marketing platform it picked up when it acquired Black Knight in 2023. A guided pilot ran through late 2024, and since January 2025 remaining customers migrate by self-service package or through ICE professional services at standard rates, as reported by HousingWire. ICE has said Surefire comes at current Encompass CRM pricing for early movers, with a two-year lock for pilot participants.

It is not an isolated event. ICE has also set a hard retirement date for the Encompass SDK of December 31, 2026, with transitional access billed after January 2027, per National Mortgage News. Two forced migrations, announced within a couple of years, from the vendor at the center of most lenders' stacks.

What it means for your operation

  • A migration you did not schedule. Contacts, campaigns, triggers, consent records, and Encompass field mappings all move, and loan officers retrain, on a timeline set by the vendor's roadmap.
  • Pricing leverage moves to the vendor. A locked rate for two years is an answer to a question worth asking twice: what happens in year three, when your data, your LOS, and your CRM all renew with the same counterparty?
  • The rented-stack lesson. Any tool you subscribe to can be retired, repriced, or merged on someone else's schedule. That is not an ICE problem; it is the structure of renting.

Your three options

The migration effort is being spent either way. That makes this the rare moment when switching costs are equal across every destination, including the ones ICE does not offer.

Questions to ask before you migrate anywhere

  1. What export formats do we get for contacts, activity history, and consent records, and can we run a full export ourselves at any time?
  2. What does the same seat count cost at renewal, in writing?
  3. How does the Encompass integration work after the SDK retires: API, EPC, or something proprietary?
  4. Which automated campaigns rebuild automatically and which rebuild by hand?
  5. If we leave in three years, what do we keep?

If your team is also carrying custom SDK integrations toward the December 2026 deadline, that is a separate workstream with its own clock. Our consulting practice handles those migrations at encompasslosconsulting.com.
